I can film missions (so long as the server doesn’t destroy the FPS) but the way I've been doing it results in a video file which comes out at about 40-60GB and without radio comms or my voice, as these are recorded seperately from the game audio in two additional files for mixing.

A 30fps .mp4 1080p format vid shouldn't be anywhere near that size if you can use the nvidia encoder NENVC (nenvc is the h.265 version). OBS supports it i believe though i appreciate changing a working set up isnt ideal...

Not sure on the codec but I use OBS and I always export the finished product from movie maker in 1080p HD with no issues.

I believe I could simply use the base OBS product with no issues also as it records straight to .mp4.

I'm no expert mind but it's worked for me so far.

That is using NVENC. But it’s the tradeoff for a low burden on system resources and a high quality output. OBS is a nice idea. Cancer to use.

I guess breaking them down into chunks is the only option then, most of the recording software has option to do this...

I used dxtory that records and splits audio tracks up nicely in example sony vegas.
This means that I can record mic(me), speakers(game) and headset(TS) and easily adjust what was needed.

Shadowplay works however enabling it eats performance from the hdd even when its not used meaning slower texture loading, at least when you use the "quick replay" for the last 5min etc

I will record this weeks OP, when we played the Czechs I was recording to an old HDD which meant that performance was garbage, but I deleted 200gb of porn  stuff on my SSD, recording on it seems to work fine with OBS.

My test footage looks a bit weird though,  I play at 3840x2160 but with 67% sampling, and OBS has to downscale the recording to 1080p again

Ok cool well give it a go Joona see how we get on, if its just too much of a pain then knock it on the head, gameplay is paramount at the end of the day, but any extra footage you can provide would be gratefully received :)

So....How did everyone get on with recording, any problems that I can help with?

I managed to balls up the start of the night by recording my 2nd monitor for an hour, not the greatest start, I did manage to capture the rest of the evening though typically I managed to get myself KIA'd quite a bit during the 2nd half...not to mentioned jumping out at high altitude without using the paradrop function....doh..

Frame drops didn't help last night but to be fair I haven't seen those kind of drops for quite a while..

I got pretty much the whole op but I was also zeusing a lot of stuff. I'll upload what I did get so you can trawl through if you wish but it'll need a lot of trimming down etc.

Plus side I think I got most of the ammo cache explosion through a window in the HQ building.

Will do

An alternative way which @hoofed is trying out is uploading it to vid.me so I can then download it, whatever works for you guys...

Found out that Vidme has a 1GB limit on uploads for unverified accounts. So I uploaded it to YouTube so you could use youtube-dl to grab the 1080p video and audio and resync them or I'll have to upload to the FTP server. File is ~7.5GB for 2 hours of footage.

@hoofed

ok so got youtube-dl (nice tool) thanks!

Footage is fine however the version that is available from YT is coming down in 1280x720, I believe youtube-dl downloads the best res available rather than best pixel quality (if that's wrong please tell me I only started using it this morning) and assuming 1280x720 was the recording resolution I'm guessing i'll only ever get a 720p copy, which again is ok but will be reduced in quality when I stretch it out to 1080p. It is however useable, do you have a 1920x1080 version though?

Vid came down as .mp4 2.74Gb

@Jason

Unfortunately Jas your vids resolution I just cant use, its 1280x1024 which is an old ratio now 4:3 but when stretched out to 1080 16:9 looks god awful I'm afraid, can you amend the ratio you record at? what are you using to record? what monitor do you have?

Vid came down as .mp4 1.38Gb

Audio

Another issue I'm seeing in hindsight is the audio quality differences, not as major a thing as the vid resolution as i'm sure adobe can convert it to whatever you need but to take the strain off the old PC it'd be good if we could sync up the quality settings, it doesn't have to be anything special as a lot of the audio won't be used anyway so I'll suggest the following settings;

Bit Rate: 192 Kbps

Channels: 2 Stereo

Sample Rate: 44.1Khz

Let me know your thoughts gents and let me say thanks for the first attempt, it wasn't in vein and is very much appreciated!

@PARKER, YouTube use DASH so video and audio are served up as seperate files. The 720p and smaller non-DASH versions will be a fallback for devices that can’t handle it. You should be able to see 1080p as a DASH video but you'll also have to grab the audio and resync the two files in your editor.

youtube-dl -F [YouTube Video URL]

Should give you a list of video and audio files with codes.

youtube-dl -f [YouTube Video Code]

Will download the file you want from the previous list to the working directory.
