Donation Page

29 posts in this topic

About a year ago it was suggested that I should set up a page which would enable members to contribute to the group financially. I have always been reluctant to do this.

I have finally taken the time to create a donation page, it is in no way required and we are in no way in dire need of financial support but the option is there for anyone who would like to contribute to the group in this way as it would help reduce our monthly bill.

Here is a link -> http://www.gol-clan.co.uk/donate

I may expand on this page at some point and show a list of the members that have contributed and the amount that was contributed but for now its just a bog standard page just to see if there is any interest.

Thanks.

Where does the money go? Does it go into the server pot on the server hosting services? Or does it go straight into you bank account?

Indeed. Please clarify.

In all seriousness though, I think this has already been answered:

That to me reads that it goes to the person who currently foots the monthly bill for the forum hosting and/or server to reduce their outgoings. The contribution is towards the cost of running these things

@Jason I find the above vague at best.

The idea of donations has been thrown around for a long time. Many suggestions have been made about what should happen with donated money. Some of them were pretty wild. Nothing was really ever decided about this. The council did not at all take part in deciding anything about the actual implementation of a donation page.

I don't believe donations are a good idea. Especially when, as @R4IDER says above, we don't actually need them. In fact I think this is pandora's box, particularly when there's no transparency and no clear thought behind it. This seems to me another wild GOL idea that wasn't thought through to the end.

Summing up:

1. What happens with donated money? Please be transparent and specific.

2. We don't need donations. Why do we have them now?

3. Why was this implemented without taking it to the council?

The server pot is my bank account, so don't worry Gora it's not going into a secret off shore bank account that will then get used to buy myself new shit. Chris foots 50% of the Bill which he sends to me each month and I pay the rest and sort out the web hosting and team speak hosting.

The donation page is something that has been mentioned to me a few times and with the recent discussions about the future of GOL it has been stated that me and Chris are overlords since we fund everything. The donations page allows others to gain a bit of ownership. It has been suggested that contributing financially to the running of GOL would make members feel like they had much more of a say in how GOL moved forward.

1) The money goes into reducing mine and Chris's monthly bill. As for what it will be used for see my response to Gora.

2) Already answered above.

3) The financial side of GOL isn't really something anyone other than me and Chris deal with so I didn't think to ask for any further input, however this can be discussed further in a meeting and if decided the page can be taken down.

Donations are not compulsory and the page was put up to see if there would be any interest.

The option to contribute is a good move in my opinion.

What is the current monthly charge for you guys?

The monthly charge is £88, what I can do is set up some kind of donation tracker so everyone can see who's donated and the amount that was donated.

@R4IDER - I wasnt implying that you was gonna steal the money :D I just know the old clan i was with had this donate directly to the server kinda of deal and was wondering if it was like that.

Having a tracker would be nice.

Although youve said people who donate think they have more say should be ruled that, someone who donates, eg UJ, does not have more say than someone who didnt, eg Joona for example. The hierarchy remains. You 1IC, Filth 2IC, etc. If "more you pay the more it goes your way" was a thing, ill just donate 100 quid and own the clan then, right?

Think of the donation as investing into the future which is why were all here and haven't fucked off yet isn't it :)

Not saying this is a bad move (the opposite) but we need to be careful for this entitlement ordeal.

Also - what happens if we day, donate 120 pounds out of the needed 88 bill cost? what happens to the 32 squid left over? does it loop round for the next bill? what happens if we start overfilling and shit?

Since when did i have any say lol.

Its a good idea, and where any money goes spare or otherwise is frankly, non of my business......but i would hope a smattering of heroin, pot and shit tons of alcohol with a fairly large selection of whores from every nation.....and a good camera to video it all. Just saying.....

Well obliviously GOL isn't a political party so by making a donation you are not buying  influence but instead you are contributing to the running costs. Maybe the word ownership was a bad choice. In the unlikely event that more funds are raised then required then this will roll over into the costs for the following month. If this happens often then I will look into upgrading the server.

Realistically though I doubt the above will happen.

Instead of making it big, i think is better going small but recurring. Feed the bird several times and he will always be fit, give him loads of food and he won't fly anymore :)

Thanks @unionjak
Donation: £5

I have added a donation progress tracker to the website, what this shows is the total donations required to cover the server costs over 3 months which is how often I renew the server for. Right now we have 83% of the £270 required so thanks a lot to those who have donated. If the goal is exceeded then the amount that the donations exceeded the £270 by will be carried over to following next 3 months.

The donation tracker will also show who has donated and how much, if for any reason you don't want this information to be displayed just let me know and I will remove you from the list.

Thanks @SoKkada
Donation: £5

Received Two donations for £10 from someone called Tom and another for £5 for someone called Alex, I have not been able to work out who the donations are from so if this was you please let me know.

Donation tracker has been updated - I have had to only pay 13% of the server costs so far in this window so thanks to everyone who's donated.
